National Certified Counselor

IMH 16898 Florida
Supervisor: Joan Nodzon, LMHC. MH12233

Anne Smith graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois with a Master’s Degree in counseling and a concentration in Child and Adolescent Counseling. Anne is as a National Certified Counselor, certified with the National Board for Certified Counselors and is a pre-licensed professional counselor registered in the state of Florida.

Anne has experience as a Trauma therapist working with victims of crime and those suffering with symptoms from complex trauma, family of origin issues, and severe anxiety. She completed her internship at a busy community mental health center in Clearwater, Florida, working collaboratively with her clients to help them overcome the pain of past traumatic experiences. Anne worked with her clients on developing a new sense of self and self-empowerment, something that many of her clients stated they had not experienced before.

Anne has particular interest in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which focuses on increasing self-understanding and awareness of emotional issues and conflicts, which underlie the presenting difficulties. Anne believes that the therapeutic alliance is at the center of treatment which enables clients to speak freely and genuinely throughout treatment while remaining open to interpretation of defense mechanisms related to past traumas.

Anne also has a deep interest in neuroscience and counseling and is part of an ongoing collaborative team of professionals led by Northwestern University faculty dedicated to studying and practicing brain-based counseling interventions.
