Envy and Negative Thought Cycles
–By Aisha Abbasi M.D.-
I’d like to wish my readers a Happy 2019 by offering some helpful information on understanding envy and other negative thoughts that could develop this time of year. In a previous blog, I wrote about how envious feelings, if not understood, can get in the way of our progression in life. I recently came across another useful blog about envy, which I’m sharing with you today.
“Why Do I Feel Sad When Others Do Well” is a timely article by Laura McGuinness, Psychotherapist (Integrative), Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom. At this time of the year, after the holiday season and the start of the New Year, you may sometimes have the feeling that everybody else is leading a wonderful life — EXCEPT you.
McGuinness writes, “Envy involves you and one other: it is the feeling of seeing something they have that you want. This reflection of what you wish you had can lead to feelings of inferiority and sadness.”
McGuinness touches on several points regarding envy, projection, jealousy, and other feelings. It is important to know you are not alone in this experience.
